helping professionals move beyond anxiety, burnout, trauma & Depression

r Joel Sheridan – Private Clinical Psychologist London

Hi, I’m Dr Joel Sheridan

Chartered Clinical Psychologist
15+ years’ experience

I offer evidence-based psychological therapy for adults in London and online. Many of the people I work with appear capable and composed on the outside while carrying far more internally than they show. If that resonates, you’re in the right place.

I provide therapy in London for anxiety disorders, low mood, stress and emotional wellbeing, offering a grounded, reflective approach for people who want to feel calmer, clearer and more in control.

What I Help With

People seek therapy for many reasons. Sometimes psychological issues develop gradually, and sometimes they can appear very suddenly. You may be dealing with:

  • Generalised anxiety

  • Panic attacks (sudden episodes of intense fear)

  • Social anxiety

  • Health anxiety

  • Body image anxiety

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

  • Phobias

  • Low mood or depression

  • Burnout, overwhelm or emotional exhaustion

  • Insomnia and poor sleep

  • Imposter syndrome

  • Post-traumatic stress (PTSD)

  • Relationship or family strain

  • Stress during major life transitions

Some people will have a diagnosis that relates to one or more of the above difficulties. For others, it may not be so clear, and you may feel confused about why you feel so distressed when it seems that others are dealing with “much worse”. This is a very common concern.

The reality is that most people experience struggles at different points in their lives, and compassion for others does not mean minimising or neglecting your own emotional health.

I can help you to identify the factors that are causing or maintaining your psychological distress, and to understand how these can be worked through.

Therapy in London

for Anxiety, Stress & Emotional Wellbeing

One of the benefits of therapy in London is having a calm, private space in a busy city to slow down, take a step back, and make sense of what’s been happening internally.

Many clients describe feeling constantly switched on — managing work, responsibilities, and expectations while living with a persistent sense of anxiety or internal pressure, often without fully realising how much this has become their default way of operating.

In our work together, we take time to understand the patterns beneath these experiences and develop ways of responding that support a calmer nervous system, steadier emotions, clearer thinking, and a more values-aligned way of moving through daily life.

At this stage, it can also be helpful to understand the practical details of accessing therapy. Sessions are available on a self-funded basis, and I also work with a number of private health insurers.

A Reflective Space

to Improve Mental Wellbeing

I have a great deal of experience in helping adults who are:

  • Navigating demanding professional environments

  • Juggling inner pressure and high expectations

  • Dealing with overthinking, worry or emotional intensity

  • Moving through significant life transitions

  • Managing long-standing patterns that now hold them back

Therapy offers a way to understand these patterns more clearly and respond to them differently — so you can move forward with greater confidence, steadiness, and emotional ease.

Therapy Rooted in Psychological Science

With extensive experience across the NHS and private practice, I offer therapies that have been tested in rigorous research and shown to be effective. I draw on:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions and actions interact. It supports you to gently challenge unhelpful patterns and develop more empowering ways of responding.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

ACT helps you build psychological flexibility — supporting you to regulate difficult emotions, unhook from unhelpful thoughts and move towards a more values-aligned life.

Eye Movement Desensitisation
& Reprocessing

EMDR helps you reprocess distressing memories and reduce the emotional charge of past experiences, allowing you to integrate them more adaptively and restore a sense of safety and control.

Compassion-Focused Therapy

CFT nurtures a sense of inner calm and safety. It helps soften self-criticism, regulate threat-based emotions and cultivate a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Tailored Treatment

Your treatment is shaped around your goals, needs and preferred pace. Some people prefer short-term, focused work; others benefit from medium-or longer-term therapy. We decide this together.
